IIT Bombay has released the CEED entrance exam syllabus through the official brochure at ceed.iitb.ac.in. Candidates are advised to download CEED syllabus pdf beforehand and plan their preparation for CEED 2026 accordingly. With the help of CEED syllabus, aspirants can know topics, sections and their weightage, subject-wise questions based on which CEED question paper is prepared. The CEED exam date is January 18, 2026. The exam syllabus of CEED 2026 is designed to examine the candidate's suitability to puruse a postgraduate programme in design at participating IITs and other institutes which are among the top design colleges in India.
IIT Bombay revised the CEED syllabus in 2024. As per the official brochure 2026, the CEED syllabus consists of two parts Part A and Part B. As per the CEED exam pattern, the question paper will consist of 2 parts - Part A and Part B.
CEED part A include questions from topics like visualisation and spatial reasoning, practical and scientific knowledge, observation and design sensitivity, and more. Aspirants can check the detailed part A of the CEED 2026 entrance exam syllabus below.
Visualization and spatial reasoning | Ability to visualize and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships. |
Practical and scientific knowledge | Know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects. |
Observation and design sensitivity | Capacity to detect concealed properties in day-to-day life and think critically about them. Attention to detail, classification, analysis, inference, and prediction. |

Analytical and logical reasoning | Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information. |

Art and Design knowledge | Awareness about art/artifact/product, artists/designers, art/design history, and trends. |
Design methods and practices | Knowledge of media, materials, production processes, and ergonomics. |

Once candidates have completed part A, they will be redirected to CEED exam part B which needs to be completed in 2 hours. Below is the CEED syllabus for part B.
Drawing | Ability to draw products, people, or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading. |
Creativity | Capacity to think out of the box and come up with unique as well as diverse solutions. |
Communication | Skills to communicate concepts and ideas clearly with the help of text and visuals. |
Problem identification | Capability to understand the user and the context, knowledge of properties of materials, and their appropriate use in design. |
Although aspirants are advised to study all topics included in the common entrance examination for design syllabus, there are some topics which are of high importance. Candidates should focus on important topics. Some of the important topics from common entrance examination for design syllabus are:
Along with the CEED entrance exam syllabus, the authorities also released the exam pattern. With the help of CEED 2026 exam pattern, candidates will be able to know details on the types of questions that will be asked in the entrance exam. The entrance test will be conducted for 3 hours from 9am to 12 pm. Part - A is a computer-based exam whereas Part B will be held based on pen and paper mode.

The CEED exam syllabus for Part A will include topics such as Visualization and spatial reasoning, Practical and scientific knowledge, Observation and design sensitivity, Environment and Society, Analytical and logical reasoning, Language, Creativity, Art and Design knowledge, and Design methods and practices. In Part B, students will be asked about their Drawing, Creativity, Communication, and Problem identification skills.
IIT Bombay does not recommend any particular books or guides for the preparation of the exam. However candidates can work on their drawing skill, enhance creativity, and problem identifying skill.
The CEED 2027 exam is tentatively conducted in January 2027.
CEED is a national level exam conducted by IIT Bombay for the candidates who are planning to take admission in M.Des programmes. As there will be limited seats and maximum competition, cracking the CEED entrance test is not an easy task. Candidates has to prepare well for the exam and has to go through the previous year papers for better understanding on exam pattern and type of questions asked.
