The courses in most of the fashion designing colleges in India are the same except with some slight changes in it. All the undergraduate courses aim to teach similar courses throughout that form the basics of the fashion designing degree. The fashion design syllabus includes subjects that help the students learn theoretical courses such as history of fashion, English, and foreign languages. The courses also offer practical teaching like sketching and drawing, 3D modelling and pattern making, etc.
The duration of the B.Des courses is four years. In these four years, the fashion designing colleges also implement courses based on the relevant software to keep up-to-date with the technology trends. The M.Des courses offer a more sophisticated study of fashion design which has a duration of two years. Throughout the four semesters in two years, these courses offer research-based and entrepreneurial based subjects to thrive in the job industry.

The graduates are offered with multiple opportunities that help them to tackle the real world problems and address the current human needs with a visionary future. The fashion design course in NIFT is offered with major specialisations - luxury and couture, Global Retail Fashion Business, Fashion Intersections, Image and Styling, Fashion Innovation and Intuitive Clothing, Apparel design, Fashion communication and more. Along with these best specialisations there are interdisciplinary minors in Fashion Exploration and Fashion Representation for undergraduate course and Fashion Process for postgraduate course.
