Given that NIFT is one of the most sought-after fashion design colleges in India, the interview process can be quite challenging. It is therefore important to be fully prepared before appearing in front of the Panel. Any interview can be easily cracked if the candidate has a general understanding of the kind of questions that would be asked, so as to ensure that no question will surprise the candidate. Once the question is understood, it is also highly advisable to prepare a rough sketch of the answer to be given. Given below is a set of the most repeated NIFT interview questions from the previous years. Candidates can expect similar questions in the NIFT 2026 interview.
Introduce yourself to us.
Give an overview of all the positive things that define you. Talk about the family background, education, daily routine, hobbies, achievements, fitness routine, ideal job, goal in life etc.
Talk about the outfit you are wearing today? Why did you choose it for this occasion?
One can talk about the Individual pieces that make up their outfits, their cultural significance, patterns, color combination, brand value, embroidery, origin, sustainability etc. To stand out from amongst the rest, justify how each piece complements the other.
Why do you think that you deserve a seat in NIFT?
Talk about the interest and talents in the field of fashion, substantiate with a portfolio of your works. Prepare factual responses with regards to the legacy of the Institute and relate it to the career aspirations that you have in mind for yourself. Most importantly, highlight the special features of the Course that you are aiming for.
What do you know about fast-fashion and what is your take on it?
Discuss the rise of frequent change in apparel trends, brand consciousness, environmental and ethical implications etc. Give your opinion on it, that is not too controversial.
Talk about the embroidery/weave/handloom that is famous to your region (or any region in India).
To answer such questions, candidates must have in-depth knowledge of at least the most famous craft clusters of the nation. Such questions must be answered very passionately and confidently.
Do you have any established fashion brand/ designer that you admire? What do you admire about them?
Be honest and explain your choice confidently. If you are not prepared for an answer, do not worry, let the interview panel know that you do not have any or cannot think of any at the moment.
What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? How do you think you will contribute to the heritage of NIFT?
Your answer must convince the panel that you are a long-term thinker. A unique answer to this question must talk about the step’s that you are currently taking to achieve the goals that you have set for yourself.
Besides these questions candidates can also expect questions like-
1. What is your personal style?
2. What excites you the most about the fashion industry?
3. How would you relate to past and present fashion trends?
4. Do you have any other passion, apart from fashion?
This round is not as much focused on your knowledge as it is on your attitude. Keep these tips in mind whilst you prepare and appear for the interview.

Do not hesitate to express your opinion, be honest to yourself and your values.
Be convinced that you are worthy of a seat in this prestigious institute.
Try to maintain the flow of your thought, and do not hesitate to approach the panellists for any clarification of the question.
