What is NIFT 2026 Admission Process?

The full form of NIFT is the National Institute of Fashion Technology. The NIFT entrance exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) every year for admissions into UG and PG programmes of participating NIFT colleges. The NIFT admissions 2026 are offered in various programmes such as BDes, MDes, B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and MFM programmes. The qualified candidates in the entrance exam must further qualify the situation test/ personal interview to be eligible for NIFT counselling and the seat allotment process.

NIFT 2026 Admission Process

The aspiring candidates have to register online, which is the first step in the NIFT admission process. After successfully completing the registration process, candidates have to appear for the NIFT 2026 entrance exam. To obtain NIFT 2026 admission, candidates have to appear for the General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT), components of the entrance exam. The shortlisted candidates appear for the Situation Test/ PI as a part of the NIFT admission process.

The CAT and GAT exams are the prerequisites for B.Des and M.Des admissions and is conducted online. For admission to the BFTech programme, the candidates only appear for the NIFT GAT question paper. Meanwhile, it is a must for the MFM candidates to pass in both the GAT and the PI rounds to acquire admission at any of the NIFT campuses.

NIFT Admission Criteria 2026

The NIFT eligibility criteria is released through the official brochure at nift.ac.in. Before starting the NIFT application process, the candidates are required to check and meet the NIFT admission criteria. The criteria for NIFT admission is given below:

• Qualification (Academics): The candidates must have completed their secondary education in the 10+2 pattern from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, including the Central Board of Secondary Education or the State Board New Delhi, or the Council for the Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
• Age limit: The candidates should be 24 years or below as of August 1, 2026. However, a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Person with Disability (PWD) categories is provided for candidates.

NIFT 2026 Admission Eligibility for B.F.Tech. Programme

• Qualification (Academic): Candidates must have completed their Plus 2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern from any Central or State Board of Secondary Examination recognized by the government, with Physics & Mathematics as subjects.
• Age limit: Candidates should be 24 years old or below as of August 1, 2026. However, a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit is provided for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Person with Disability (PWD) category candidates.

NIFT Admission Registration 2026

The NIFT 2026 application form is currently closed. NIFT 2026 registration dates were notified on the NTA's official website. Candidates could register online after paying the required registration fees. After the registration process, the candidates are allotted a registered user ID and password so as to submit the NIFT application form through the given credentials. The NIFT application form fee is Rs. 2,000 for the general category candidates and Rs. 500 for the candidates of SC/ST/PWD category when applying for a single programme.

NIFT Admission Counselling 2026

The NIFT admission counselling dates will be released at the official website - nift.admissions.nic.in. The shortlisted candidates after the entrance exam and situation test wlll be eligible to participate in the NIFT counselling process.

Candidates need to register for the process of NIFT counselling process. The NIFT admission counselling will be conducted tentatively 3 rounds and a spot round. The seats will be allocated to the candidates that are based on factors such as the ranks of the candidates, the seat availability, and the campus preference.

NIFT conducts a centralised seat allotment process through online counselling. The category-wise seat distribution across all the NIFT campuses for different academic programmes will be updated on the official website - nift.ac.in. According to the NIFT seat matrix, an aggregate number of 4837 seats are allocated in total for all the different design courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
